Facelift for Limassol Museum

FOLLOWING a meeting between the Mayor of Limassol Andreas Christou and the Director of the Antiquities Department, Pavlos Flourentzos, it was agreed that the Limassol Archaeological Museum in the centre of town would be upgraded and refurbished, while new and never-before-seen exhibits will be added to its collection.

The museum’s exterior and garden area, as well as its interior will be improved.

“Limassol City Council will prepare a plan for the improvements, including the cost involved. We will upgrade the collection by adding exhibits from Amathus, Pyrgos, Curium, Erimi, Alassa and Sotira, which have not been presented to the public yet,” said Mayor Christou.

“It is up to Public Works to improve the building’s exterior, and we have asked the municipal gardener to give suggestions on improving the garden,” Christou added.

The Mayor also dispelled rumours that the museum would be relocating to another site.

“Its present location is quite convenient. It is close to other sites frequented by tourists. It is also close to the Historical Museum which will be housed at the District Officer’s Residence,” he added.
