Christofias declares himself President

AKEL presidential candidate Demetris Christofias lost a spot of political capital when he refused to answer a journalist’s question on the grounds that he was the next president of the Cyprus Republic.

Christofias lost his temper several times with journalists on Mega television on Thursday when they poked and prodded him on his and his party’s past negative attitudes to the EU.

Paphos street to honour mediaeval Danish king

A PAPHOS street is to be named after a Danish King buried in the town over 900 years ago.

The street will be in homage to Erik I after a suggestion by Foreign Minister Erato Kozakou-Markoulli, with a special ceremony to take place on March 27 in the town.

Two cars torched in Limassol

TWO cars, belonging to different people, were set on fire while parked outside a house in Limassol yesterday.

The fires broke out at 4.15am and the fire brigade was called in at once. Police officers, including Limassol’s Deputy Police Chief, also arrived at the scene.

IT MAY seem ungracious to begrudge Ioannis Kasoulides the support of the Archbishop. With every last vote up for grabs, and with AKEL, DIKO and EDEK, shamelessly recomposing their alliance in a sordid game of musical chairs, here at least was an endorsement that bucked the seemingly irreversible trend towards Demetris Christofias.
