Rainfall gives some hope to Limassol

THE rainfall of the last three days has created some long-awaited inflow at Limassol’s parched dams. Limassol Water Board yesterday announced that the inflow at Limassol’s water reservoirs in the past three days slightly exceeded the town’s daily water needs.

Kourris dam has had an intake of 240,000m3 of water in the past three days. The rain brought up the dam’s total to 3.6 million m3, filling up about 19.3 per cent of the dam’s total capacity, which is 115 million m3.

A total of 276,000m3 of rainwater entered Arminou dam over the last three days, filling up 72 per cent of the dam’s total capacity. Water will continue to be transported from Arminou to Kourris. The process of moving water from one dam to the other started in December 2007 and since then a total of 2.64 million m3 has been transported in a bid to fill up Kourris.

Yermasoyia dam has also had some water intake in the last few days, gaining 51,000m3 of water. This has brought its total to 328,000m3, representing 2.4 per cent of the dam’s total capacity. Polemidia dam received 1.4 m3 of water, bringing its total to 3.4 million m3, which represents 40.5 per cent of its total capacity.
