Airport mayhem as Greek flights cancelled

LARNACA Airport faced mayhem yesterday as a number of flights to and from Greece were cancelled due to bad weather.

Hundreds of passengers who had arrived on the island to vote in yesterday’s elections crowded the departures section of the airport, waiting to return to Athens.

Chaos ensued when passengers heard of the delays and complained to airport staff for not being informed earlier.

A flight with 240 passengers that was meant to arrive in Larnaca at 3pm was cancelled as it was deemed too dangerous to take off from Eleftherios Venizelos Airport. The passengers were taken to a nearby hotel awaiting news on whether they will be flying out today.

Two more flights to and from Athens were also cancelled a little later, as the Greek Aviation put out the message that Eleftherios Venizelos was out of order.
