Teen wanted for Limassol theft case

THREE boys from Limassol, a 15-year-old, a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old, are involved in a case of theft in bright daylight, as well as giving false statements to police, Limassol police said yesterday.

Two of the boys are suspected of having snatched the purse of a pedestrian while riding their bike on Ayios Andreas Street in Limassol. The victim reported to police that the incident happened at 1pm on Wednesday. Her bag contained her mobile phone, cash and other items of a total value of €700.

She reported the incident immediately, and police was able to move speedily to the area. They saw a suspicious motorbike at Franklin Roosevelt Street, and asked the two riders to stop, which they refused to do. Police then chased the bike, and as a result the two boys ditched the bike and ran away on foot.

A 17-year-old student then called police to report that his motorbike, with matching licence plates to the one police had been chasing, was stolen on that day on Anexartisia Street. He went in to give a statement, escorted by his 15-year-old brother. However, there were inconsistencies in their statements, which made police suspect them.

After questioning, both boys admitted that they had given false statements and that they were involved in the Ayios Andreas theft. They said that they had given some of the stolen money to a third 16-year-old boy. The 17-year-old then told police that it wasn’t his 15-year-old brother, but the 16-year-old, who was with him when they stole the purse. The two boys have been arrested, while the 16-year-old is wanted by police.
