Young father first victim of the cold

A YOUNG Romanian man yesterday collapsed and died whilst having a shower.

Though a post-mortem today is set to determine the exact reasons behind the 25-year-old father of two’s death, it is most likely that the unfortunate man died because of the cold.

It appears the Romanian is the first victim of the icy cold weather, with temperatures in Farmakas yesterday reaching -2C.

The conditions in the home he was residing were dire, with no central heating and apparently there was no hot water. According to some residents, the man tried to take a cold shower.

The 25-year-old had arrived in Cyprus in a bid to secure a better future for his two young children and was living in the Nicosia village Farmakas for the past 10 days.

Arriving at the scene, police found he had no external injuries, while State Pathologist Nicolas Charalambous carried out an autopsy on the scene.

“I carried out an autopsy in a village of the Nicosia District, where the body of a young foreigner was found in his home’s bath.

The exact reasons behind his death will be determined after [today’s] post-mortem.

I can’t say much more at this moment,” said Charalambous.

A local added: “I heard [about the incident] while I was in the cafeteria and I ran to see what had happened. I saw the man was semi-conscious. The situation was very serious so we called the police.”
