Man charged with indecent assault

A YOUNG woman has accused a man of indecently assaulting her in the middle of a busy road on Tuesday evening.

The 23-year-old woman managed to escape the suspect by hailing an on-coming motorist, who took her to the Ayios Dometios police station where she filed a complaint.

The 50-year-old man was found in the same area where, according to the complaint, the incident took place.

After receiving the complaint, police began a manhunt and found him a little while later, taking him to the Ayios Dometios station

“As she had given a full description of the suspect, a patrol car spotted the suspect in the surrounding area, took him to the station where he was recognised by the plaintiff,” Demetriou explained, adding: “The suspect gave his own version of events, which are being investigated by police.”

The man appeared in Nicosia District Court yesterday morning, where he denied all charges.

The Court set the trial date for April 18. To ensure he attends, the man, who is Turkish Cypriot, was given restrictive bail conditions.
