Is this service for tourists?

Sir,
On an island that purports to hold tourism as an important part of its gross domestic product, why does the government go out of its way to alienate tourists?

Last Sunday, I went to two shops in the Pyla tourist area (one of them almost directly opposite the CTO Beach), and another two in the Oroklini tourist area, in an attempt to purchase a copy of the Sunday Mail. All four shops were closed upon the diktat of the local police, who obviously have nothing better to do than to annoy local residents and tourists alike. If the Sunday Mail is published, why can I not purchase one in my local area?

Small local shops are a lifeline to tourists staying in small complexes in the area. The government seems intent on ensuring that off-season tourism is wiped out completely, sending winter tourists to the much more accommodating resorts of nearby countries (dare I say like the one to our north). The country I am thinking of bends over backwards to be visitor friendly, it has a very well produced advert on British television and its airport taxes are well below those of ours.

Cyprus continues to bury its head in the sand.

I love living on this Island but I am becoming more and more frustrated by the outdated attitudes of this archaic administration.
