Man kills himself after shooting in-law

A DISPUTE over a seat on the Irrigation Board of Arakapas village led a man to shoot his in-law before turning the gun on himself and committing suicide.

Yesterday at 8.30am, Vassos Charalambous, 52, shot his in-law, 61-year-old Nikos Georgiou-Sfyri with a shotgun at the victim’s house at Arakapas in the Limassol district.

Three students arrested over school vandalism

THREE students from Limassol were arrested yesterday in connection with police investigations over the criminal damage to the premises of Ayios Antonios high-school that took place last weekend, police said yesterday.

The arrests were based on information given to police by an eye-witness. The three boys were questioned and admitted their guilt, police said.

Minibus torched in Limassol

A MINIBUS belonging to a Paphos-based taxi company was set on fire while parked at a service-garage in Limassol, police said yesterday.

The fire was reported at 1.30am on Friday. The minibus was parked at the garage on Petros Yiallouros street in the Ayios Varnavas area. The fire brigade was called in to put out the fire.

Cyprus’ first breast health clinic opens at Limassol Hospital

THE FIRST breast health clinic in Cyprus has opened at Limassol General Hospital, offering medical care to women from the Limassol district.

The official opening took place yesterday morning in the presence of Health Minister Costas Kadis and Europa Donna representatives. Minister Kadis confirmed that plans are also in the works for a second Nicosia-based breast clinic.

THE EUROPEAN Union yesterday urged Cyprus and Greece to rethink their opposition to Kosovo independence.

The two million ethnic Albanians in the southern Serbian province are expected to declare independence sometime after Serbia’s presidential elections later this month.
