More fake euros in Limassol

FOLLOWING the reports of forged euro note circulation on Monday, two more fake euro banknotes were traced on separate occasions in Limassol.

On Wednesday, a bank clerk reported to police that a bank customer had given him a fake €100 note. Following investigation, police found that the note in question had been deposited by a kiosk owner, who said that he received it from a customer. According to the kiosk owner’s report, a man had come to his shop and purchased items worth €5 with the €100 note, getting €95 change. The suspect is described as a foreigner, 1.80m tall, thin, with dark blonde hair, aged between 35 and 40.

In a separate incident on the same day, a company employee reported that he found a fake €50 note among the daily cash received. This is the third fake euro incident in Limassol this week. In a similar case on Monday, a Limassol shopowner reported to police that a customer had paid her with a forged €100 note.

The suspect made a purchase of €10, presented the €100 note to the shopowner and got €90 change. After the man left the shop, the woman checked the note on a banknote checking device and realised it was fake.

Police are urging the public to be particularly careful and report any suspicious activity to their local police station or to the Citizen Direct Line at 1460.
