Police probe gambling cop

THE chief of police has ordered a criminal investigation against an officer allegedly caught in a gambling joint where a minor also gambled away all his money, reports said yesterday.

State television said the minor had lost a substantial amount of money he had taken from his family without them knowing.

After finding out, the family asked for the money to be returned and filed a complaint with the police when they were refused.

CyBC said the officer had been present at the gambling place when members of the minor’s family went there.

The chief of police ordered criminal and disciplinary investigations against the officer, who has not been suspended.

“Suspension will depend on the findings of the first investigation that we expect in the next few days,” police chief Iakovos Papakostas told CyBC television. “We are all equal before the law.”
