Get your priorities right

Sir,
There is no wonder so many people are leaving Cyprus, the Government Offices are ridiculous! I have just had a tax demand three years after leaving.  I thought I had concluded all my business with Cyprus, but it seems that they want some more money from me yet again. The demand was for €2.79.

A case of euro profiteering?

Sir,

Three days ago I went to the cinema – K-Cineplex, to be precise. The last time I went, a few months ago, I paid £4.00 for my ticket. They have now been re-printed in both pounds and euros, and the new price is €7.50, and the Cyprus pound equivalent (which was what I paid) was £4.39 – i.e. an increase of very nearly 10 per cent.

Euro confusion

Sir,

I was very interested in reading about the preparations for the euro in you edition on Sunday December 30.

I queued in the Laiki bank in Paphos last Friday to get a euro starter pack and was told when I got to the counter it was not available until next week.

Yesterday, Pambinos Charalambous, spokesman for the Association of Petrol Station Owners, said all the island’s 270 stations would be converted within the next 10 to 15 days.

Europe welcomes Cyprus to the club

In a written statement on the occasion of the currency’s adoption, Barroso said the arrival of the euro marks a new chapter of Cypriot history.

Consumer prices soar in December, but annual increase down

HIGHER fuel prices pushed Cyprus’s consumer inflation to a year high of 3.9 per cent year on year in December after a November reading of 3.5 per cent, the statistics department said yesterday. But for the whole year, the CPI index rose by 2.4 per cent, down from 2.5 percent in 2006, it said.
