Tales from the coffeeshop

HALLELUJAH, praise the Lord and glory to Allah – the Fantastic Dr Madsakis Show is back in Cyprus for the festive season, after his mega-successful, sell-out tour of Europe and Turkey. And he is planning a brand new one-man-show for the country of his birth, titled Mad Mats 5.

It used to be so different…

ONCE upon a time, there was a little village girl and all she wanted for Christmas was a new dress of her own.

Now that little girl is all grown up and in her place is a town girl who wants another designer bag, wads of cash, a new wardrobe, a car, a pair of designer sunglasses, an iPhone, a laptop, a new mobile…

Can you afford to heat your home this winter?

THE long summers in Cyprus leave everybody wondering how to cope with the extreme heat. But when winter finally arrives, people face an entirely different problem: how to keep warm in the face of spiralling fuel prices, which are now so high that many people can’t afford adequately to heat their homes.

State has a bad case of double standards

Sir,

I would like to refer to Loucas G Charalambous’ column (‘The Stark Truth About Return Of Refugees’) in last week’s Sunday Mail regarding the ‘all refugees in their homes’ sloganeering which politicians of all the main parties have indulged in over the years.

Refugees will never surrender their rights to Turkey

Dear Sir,

Extra thanks needed for Amy’s helpers

Sir,
I would like to thank you and all your staff, especially Jill Campbell Mackay, for the moving article which you published in seven magazine concerning my daughter Amy Keen and her CD to be sold for Breast Cancer Awareness and The Cancer Support Group here in Cyprus. I hope that your readers will support Amy in her cause.

A real witch would have seen it coming

Sir,
Your recent article concerning the arrest of an unfortunate lady caught using a crystal ball provoked hysterics here.

Surely if she was a genuine witch and the ball was working correctly, she would have been forewarned of her imminent arrest by Nicosia’s finest!

Nicosia hospital took excellent care of me

Sir
Many negative things have been said and written about the new Nicosia hospital. May I add a note of contrast. Three weeks ago I had a bad fall and was taken to the Latsia hospital by a friend.
