Woman goes on shopping spree with forged cheques

A 30-YEAR-old woman from Limassol is wanted by police following reports from various shop-owners in the town that she has been issuing cheques from a stolen chequebook of a closed account.

A Limassol resident had reported to police that in November a number of blank cheques were stolen from her chequebook, while the account attached to the chequebook had been closed.

Then, on Monday, a Limassol supermarket owner reported to police that a 30-year-old customer had paid for her shopping with two cheques for the amounts of £300 and £500.

When the supermarket owner presented the cheques to the bank, he was told that the account was no longer in use.

On the same day, a club owner reported to police that a 30-year-old woman who works at his establishment had given him a cheque for £500 and asked him to exchange it with cash. The man had given the cash to the woman, but then realised that the account was closed and he could not exchange it at the bank.

A warrant has been issued for the suspect’s arrest and she is presently wanted by police.
