A MAN was shot dead and around a dozen more arrested yesterday morning in a police sting operation gone wrong just shy of the bicommunal village of Pyla.

The victim, who was the driver, was yesterday identified as a Syrian political asylum seeker in Cyprus.

Movement insists it is not racist

THE Movement for the Salvation of Cyprus from illegal immigrants said yesterday it was not racist or xenophobic but merely worried about the extinction of Greek and Turkish Cypriots from the island.

BRITAIN yesterday denied that it has imposed an embargo on the import of halloumi following the foot and mouth outbreak.

Two convicted of stealing almost half a million pounds in bank fraud

A MAN and woman found guilty yesterday of defrauding a bank and stealing around £450,000, will find out next Thursday how long they spend in jail.

Renos Efthymiou and a clerk from the Kapedes village Co-op bank, Ourania Charalambous, were found guilty by the Nicosia Criminal Court on November 9 of theft, fraud and conspiracy after the vast amount of money went missing in 2003.
