Man to face trial over drug peddling

A MAN was yesterday ordered to answer drug charges at the Nicosia Criminal Court after he was arrested for trying to sell cocaine to an undercover police officer last week.
The 25-year-old man will answer to charges of illegal possession of 297g of cocaine with intent to sell on Friday after a ruling today from the Nicosia District Court.
According to Drug Squad (YKAN) officers, the suspect had arranged a meeting with an undercover officer and was placed under arrest as soon as the officer paid him the cash sum of £10,800 for the drugs.

YKAN officers had hidden nearby in case the suspect tried to escape arrest.
During the suspect’ remand hearing, the court had heard how the 25-year-old had travelled to Lebanon just a few days before, buying one kilo of cocaine with the intention of smuggling it back to Cyprus to sell.

Investigators are currently on the lookout for two men believed to be connected to the suspect, one Cypriot and a Palestinian man.
