New school road opens in Ayioa Athanassios

THE LONG-EXPECTED new road on the north side of B’ Primary School in Ayios Athanassios in Limassol was formally opened yesterday.

“The Ministry of Education must assign the necessary importance to the creation of road networks around schools to avoid the problems which had appeared in this particular school,” said Kyriakos Hadjittofis, Mayor of Ayios Athanassios.

The construction of the road creates a second access-point to the school. Parents and teachers had been demanding the creation of this road to alleviate traffic congestion in the area.

Prior to the opening of this road, there was only one way to access the school, which had been causing safety issues for pedestrian students and traffic congestion. The location of the school – on a hill at the north part of Ayios Athanasios – made the situation even more difficult.

The project cost a total of £125,000, funded by the Ministry of Education, while Ayios Athanassios Technical Service designed and supervised the road construction.
