Stark warning from power workers

EMPLOYEES at the Electricity Authority (EAC) yesterday delivered an ominous warning, urging people to brace for possible power cuts.

“Consumers are warned: it’s matter of days before we take dynamic measures,” said chief EAC unionist Andreas Panorkos.

Exclusion zone ordered amid foot-and-mouth fears

A THREE-KILOMETRE exclusion zone was ordered yesterday after the Veterinary Services discovered a flock of sheep in Dromolaxia showing signs of foot-and-mouth disease.

Samples have been sent to the European Laboratory for further examination and confirmation.

Thieves switch seeds for diamonds to make off with £110,000 haul

THIEVES in Limassol stole diamonds worth approximately £110,000 from a jewellery shop, right in front of the owner’s eyes, police said yesterday.

The owner reported that the diamonds were stolen by two men posing as customers, who had asked him to order the diamonds for them from abroad, then snatched them when they arrived.

Could esayJet be flying to Cyprus by April?

EASYJET could begin flying to Cyprus from April next year after the low-cost carrier bought out GB Airways, which operates flights to the island.

Under the deal, GB Airways will continue to fly under its own name until March 29, after which all flights will be carried out under the ‘easy’ brand.

Minister hails good progress towards the euro

FINANCE Minister Michalis Sarris yesterday said Cyprus was on a satisfactory road towards the euro.

Speaking after a meeting with the National Advisory Committee for the euro and representatives from all political parties, Sarris said a progress report had shown there had been a vast improvement in recent months on the public’s knowledge about the euro.

CYPRIOTS will soon be able to monitor their application for town-planning permission over the internet.

E-title deeds and other documents will be available over the web too at a later stage thanks to the Town-planning Department’s new website: www.publicaccess.tph.moi.gov.cy
