THE government has submitted a new proposal for the opening of the crossing point at Ledra Street, spokesman Vassilis Palmas said yesterday.
Palmas said the proposal was handed over to UN Secretary-general Ban Ki-moon when he met President Tassos Papadopoulos in New York last month.

According to yesterday’s Phileleftheros, Justice Minister Sophocles Sophocleous has proposed changing the current rules on minimum height for recruitment to the police force after receiving a number of complaints over the requirement.
THE POLICE Complaints Commission said yesterday it had received 37 new complaints during the past five-month period.
The complaints were lodged with the independent authority between May 1 and September 30.
Investigations were launched for 20 of the 37 complaints, 17 of which are still under investigation.

Demetris Demetriou from Limassol was fatally injured on the Limassol-Nicosia motorway just after 1pm. THE SECOND part of a Politis poll on the presidential elections published yesterday showed that a large percentage of AKEL voters are satisfied with President Tassos Papadopoulos’ positions on the Cyprus issue.
The first part of the poll published on Sunday puts Papadopoulos in the lead with 30.2 per cent of the vote, an increase of 2.2 per cent since a similar poll in July.
