€1,500 for first baby of 2008

CYPRUS’ first newborn of the year will receive 1,500 euros as part of a new scheme by baby food manufacturer, Nutricia.

The announcement was made yesterday by Nutricia’s local representatives, Lifepharma (Zam) Ltd.

The new institution will be called ‘Nutricia – The First Newborn of the Year’ and aims to contribute towards efforts to increase the island’s birth rate with its financial contribution to the newborn’s family.

Lifepharma, which is part of the MSJacovides group, said with this initiative it hoped to show its concern for the Cyprus economy and its support of an evident problem, including a demographic problem and the low birth rate.
