Heating fuel tax to fall

THE HOUSE Finance Committee yesterday approved a four-cent reduction on heating fuel duty, which will come into force after approval by the Plenum.

The Chairman of the Committee, DIKO’s Antigoni Papadopoulou, said the reduction was deemed necessary, not just by Parliament but also by the government.

But the move was deemed “questionable” by DISY deputy Lefteris Christoforou, AKEL’s Stavros Evagorou and EDEK’s Marinos Sizopoulos, who all pushed for the specific amendment last year.

The final decision will be announced after Thursday’s Plenum meeting.
