More ways to convert your old LPs

Last week we ran a query about converting an existing record collection to a more modern format. Although we gave details of a company in Nicosia offering such a service, it seems there are more ways to do it. Thanks to everyone offering feedback and these letters are among those we received:

Sir,
I saw your article in seven. I do LP to CD reformatting. As well as putting the original artwork on the jewel case and CD I remove all the surface noise and clicks and pops so the final CD sounds better than the original!
For this service I charge £8 per CD. I live in Tala near Paphos. My mobile number is 99152309.

Sir,
Although your article on the conversion of albums to CDs was accurate, the cost would extremely high for any decent record collection.
If readers have a decent PC, then by obtaining an Ion USB Turntable, the task can be done at home, in peace and at a reasonable speed. The Turntable costs just over £100 and is available on the internet. It plugs into the USB port of the PC, a program is included free from the company or it can be downloaded from the net. Called Audacity, it does the rest – it really is very simple. The other plus is that those precious albums stay where they should be – at home.
Yours,
Dave Rees
