Ex-policeman committed

A FORMER policeman was yesterday committed to psychiatric care by a Nicosia Court after complaints that he was harassing his former wife.

The 37-year-old had been arrested on March 25 last year on charges of pimping women and assaulting women who had allegedly refused to sleep with customers of the cabaret he was believed to have been running.

At the time, the police officer had been placed on temporary suspension after his off-duty activities came to light.

Despite being finally acquitted of the charges he faced in court, he was kicked out of the force.

Yesterday, he was again brought to court, where a judge ordered that he be committed to psychiatric care.

According to the complaint against him, the former officer was harassing his wife and former wife sending them threatening phone messages.

He was escorted out of the court by around ten MMAD (Riot Squad) officers.
