Growing concern at number of foreigners killed on roads

OVER a third of this year’s road fatalities are made up of tourists or foreign workers, police said yesterday.
The alarming statistic has prompted authorities to discuss ways on how to reduce this figure, including creating more awareness among foreign nationals on the island’s Highway Code.

Police defiant after spate of attacks on officers

TWO men described as “dangerous and unpredictable” are still at large after seriously injuring two policemen on Friday.

Man threatens to kill taxi driver with sword

POLICE were yesterday still looking for a man who pulled out a sword on a taxi driver when he was asked for the fare.

The incident occurred on Saturday night when a Larnaca taxi driver drove a foreign worker to an address in Nicosia’s Kaimakli suburb.

Special unit set up to battle electronic crime

A SPECIAL police unit will be set up next month in order to try and combat an increase in electronic crime on the island.
The unit will be based at police headquarters in Nicosia, with two senior officers who have received specialist training from the FBI in the United States, specifically in anti-child pornography and electronic fraud measures.
