Road tax renewals no longer to come through the mail

ROAD TAX renewal forms will no longer be sent out through the post, with the public informed of 1,000 locations where the tax can now be paid for.

According to the Director of the Road Transport Department, Soteris Kolettas, the public can visit any bank or co-op as well as log onto the internet.

“This will make life so much easier for the public and this is very important to us,” he explained.

So far this year, 300,000 licences have been renewed online at www.jccsmart.com in collaboration with the Road Transport Department,

The new six-monthly renewal period is now upon us again. Kolettas said motorists will have until September 1 to renew the disc, after which the police have been instructed to start charging offenders.

“It’s easy, quick and secure. Just use your Visa, Mastercard or American Express credit cards and you can renew in less than five minutes,” a press release stated.

Takis Fekkos is JCC’s General Manager and he explained that, “75 per cent of renewals have been done online this year. This shows that we are helping to make people’s lives as convenient as possible.”

He added that the Road Transport Department, “is one of the first organisations to work with us in such a way.”

An online renewal system has been in place since last February in a government effort to cut down on the long queues and paperwork for the annual or six-monthly tax.

The online system is available 24 hours a day.

After entering the necessary information, you will be asked to enter your insurance details and then to type your credit card number upon which your road tax dues will be charged.

Over the previous five years, the government lost over £38 million due to vehicles not having up-to-date road tax.
