Tribute to the stars

The world’s top impersonators group together as Stars in Concert. They will give a performance tomorrow night in Larnaca that appeals to all age groups

What happens if it’s impossible to get Rod Stewart, Cher, Whitney Houston, Boy George, Tina Turner and ABBA all on stage together? You simply find some of the very best impersonators of these stars in the world and persuade them to come together for a glitzy Las Vegas inspired extravaganza.

The performers look just like the stars, dress just like the stars, and do their thing on stage just like the stars. It therefore comes as no surprise that they’ve called their unique show ‘Stars in Concert’, arriving in Cyprus for one night only to give it all they’ve got at the Patticheon Theatre in Larnaca tomorrow evening.

Brought to Cyprus by Avantgarde Cultural Foundation in cooperation with the Larnaca Municipality, the foundation aims to provide the public with something different and unique every summer. In the past two years, they hosted the much talked about Ten Tenors concert and now decided it was time for another somewhat different type of exhilarating performance. “It’s an all dancing and singing show like no other. If no one told you they were impersonators you really wouldn’t be able to tell the difference,” says event organiser, Stavros Kyriakides. “You’ll walk away and really feel like you’ve seen the real stars in action.”

As genuine show-biz professionals that are fully trained in singing and dancing, while the cast list includes some of the best impersonators currently performing in Las Vegas, Australia, Canada and England. Often singing in groups on the international or local music scenes, many of the performers have even produced their own records. The group has performed together for the past ten years as ‘Stars in Concert’ and it’s estimated that over three million people have so far seen them perform.

On the night you can expect a unique programme with impressive lighting, visual effects and a great band. As for the songs, number-one hits dating from 1950 to the present day have been chosen to appeal to all age groups. Be it Whitney Houston’s classic ‘I Will Always Love You’ in the twinkling glow of glittering sparklers, or ‘Karma Chameleon’ by Boy George, one highlight is followed by another.

Produced by the world famous Bernhard Kurz, ‘Stars in Concert’ has become one of the most successful shows of its kind in the world. And because Kurz insists on having the very best personalities and showmen on stage, look-alikes are chosen from a group of more than 100 impersonators performing worldwide.

As you sit back in your seats tomorrow night, you can look forward to Cher opening the performance before handing over the stage to Whitney Houston. ‘Queen Of The Night’ and ‘I’m Every Woman’ are just a few of the songs she will wow the crowds with before Boy George takes to the limelight. As Rod Stewart appears on stage you’ll be swept away with ‘Have I Told You’, ‘Sailing’ and ‘Some Guys Have All the Luck’. You can then expect a unique selection of hits including Tina Turner’s ‘What’s Love’ and ‘Simply the Best’, along with ‘Waterloo’, ‘Fernando’, ‘Mamma Mia’ and ‘Dancing Queen’ by ÁÂÂÁ.
“We are particularly happy that we will perform in Cyprus,” says Paul Langley, who impersonates Boy George. “Stars in Concert is a one-of-a-kind show for which all performing artists are chosen after exhausting auditions from a long list of hundreds of talented performers from around the world. Our show really is a tribute to the world’s greatest stars!” When else would you be able to pop down to a theatre in Larnaca and walk away feeling like you’ve spent the night in Vegas?
