COPYRIGHT theft police confiscated almost 5,000 fake CDs from a Limassol electrical shop following a tip off on Friday morning, police said yesterday.
During the raid 4,593 CDs, which appeared to be copies, were found as well as two computers, two printers and five copywriters.
Several hours later police raided a second Limassol shop, following another tip off, where they found and confiscated 408 copied CDs.
Limassol’s small crimes unit is investigating.
Traffic hit
A FILIPINO housemaid was injured after she was hit by a car in Paralimni on Friday night, police said.
The young woman was riding her bicycle at around 7.30pm when, under circumstances being investigated, the car crashed into her. She was rushed to Paralimni hospital where she was kept in for treatment.
Paralimni police is investigating.
Real harm
A BULGARIAN woman yesterday filed a complaint against her employer for allegedly attacking her and causing her real bodily harm, police said.
According to the woman, the attack occurred at his restaurant, where she was employed, between the hours of 10pm and 11pm on Friday after an argument the pair had. She reported the incident at 2.30am.
The Bulgarian was taken to Paphos general hospital where she received first aid and was released.
Forest fire
TWO DECARES of wild shrubs and small pine trees were destroyed in a fire on Friday afternoon in the ‘Arkatzi tou Angelou’ district near Kambos village.
The blaze broke out at around 3.50pm. Three helicopters, an airplane and Forestry Department vehicles as well as a Morphou fire service truck were used to put it out.
Kambos police station is investigating its cause.
Just over six hours later, a fire broke out at a Nicosia confectionary causing £4,000 worth of damage to the premises. The fire broke out at around 10pm and needed two fire engines to put it out.
Preliminary investigations suggest the fire was caused by overheated oil in a fryer due to a heating problem.
Hotel theft
A 19-year-old Ayia Napa tourist reported £500 missing from her hotel apartment, police said yesterday.
The young woman reported the break in at around 7.30am yesterday.
Famagusta district CID is investigating.
