Protaras rubbish

Sir,

Last week, a gentleman wrote in about rubbish in Oriklini area. I have the same complaint, but regarding the beaches of Protaras.

I’m Russian and have lived here for five years. We have a holiday apartment in Protaras – a very nice place with its beautiful beaches, and we really enjoy spending our weekends there.
Even two or three years ago, the beaches from the Sunrise Hotel to Constantinos The Great and further down were not so filthy!

I don’t understand the position of the municipal authorities; they charge people for sunbeds and umbrellas, £1.25 for each item! I wonder if they cannot find money to employ somebody to clean beaches or, at least, to organise volunteers (my husband and me will be the first), because this problem is becoming a disaster and getting worse and worse each year! Not only in Protaras.
Yesterday, we went to the beach at Sunrise Hotel and instead of having fun and pleasure we were collecting rubbish that was all over the place.

I want to say to people: it’s the place we live. Let’s keep it tidy!
