Young Cypriot dies suddenly after exams

A 20-YEAR-OLD Cypriot studying in Greece died suddenly on Monday, only moments after completing his end-of year university examinations.

Greek authorities said yesterday that Iacovos Metaxa from the village of Galata died of “natural causes”, while further histological examinations are expected to shed further light on the exact reasons behind his abrupt death.

The 20-year-old student had complained of feeling unwell during his examinations, only to lose consciousness after handing in his examination paper and was declared dead upon arrival at the Larissa General Hospital.

The 20-year-old was the first of five children of his family, while his father was the Secretary of the Galata village council.

According to Metaxa’s relatives, he had not been suffering from any sort of condition and did not have any health problems to date.

His body was expected to arrive in Larnaca late last night after being flown over from Thessaloniki.

Metaxa’s funeral is taking place this afternoon at the Panayia Odigitria Church in his local village of Galata.
