Attempted murder suspect surrenders to police

POLICE arrested 43-year old Constandinos Christoforou, the prime suspect for the attempted murder of American Michael Joseph on Monday, after he turned himself in at a police station yesterday afternoon.

The 43-year-old water sports employee from Paphos went to Peyia Police Station accompanied by three close relatives and give himself up to local police, just a day after they had issued a warrant for his arrest.

Christoforou was taken to the Paphos Central Police Station for questioning, while he is set to appear before a district judge this morning with investigators to seek an eight-day remand in light of the preliminary investigation against him.

The 39-year-old American was shot in the back of his neck in the early hours of Monday morning after the suspect is said to have waited for Joseph outside his Coral Bay residence.

Despite police insisting that they were examining all possibilities, reports claim that they have so far ruled out that the shooting is connected to Joseph’s profession as an employee for a timeshare company

Joseph, who arrived on the island less than a week ago, is currently being treated at Nicosia General Hospital where he is said to be in a “serious but not life-threatening condition”.
