Graffiti and Apoel

Sir,

I live in Engomi, Nicosia and like many people have had problems recently with young kids spray-painting graffiti on walls, pavements and roads in our residential area. I eventually caught some of the kids in the act spraying paint on a neighbour’s wall, threatened to call the police, and have not seen them since. I then contacted the local council who came and painted all the pavements grey.

Personal property remains the owner’s responsibility.

However, lately wherever you look, you see graffiti spray-painted everywhere, not only in public parks and buildings, but now personal property is also being damaged.

I am sick of this criminal damage! Why aren’t the police, government, local councils campaigning for this to stop?

Around 90 per cent of the graffiti is for Apoel football club – perhaps they should be contacted to ask their ‘fans’ to stop! Nicosia is starting to look like a ghetto – is this what we want? STOP GRAFFITI NOW! Parents should be on the look-out for spray cans, paint on their kids’ hands. So many kids wander the streets at night with nothing better to do.

An awareness campaign needs to be spread throughout schools, and there should be some form of punishment. How would the culprits like it if I spray-painted their house?
