An accident waiting to happen

Sir,

As a resident of Anavargos I would like to comment on last Sunday’s lead article (‘Sending kids to their deaths’), because we have the same problem with kids – some as young as around six or seven up to approximately 14-15 – riding up and down on 49cc mopeds – occasionally with a helmet on, but mainly without – who, upon several warnings, ride by deliberately revving up, sometimes in convoy and now resorting to giving dirty looks and making silly comments.

What are these children doing on the main road – where are the parents? There is also a young girl who also rides up and down the road on a Quad Motor, sometimes with a very young toddler and a young boy also who gives ominous looks. The only bonus with living in this village is that when (and as sure as we are that the sun will shine tomorrow) the inevitable accident happens – the local General Hospital is very near for that very event.

But of course, who will scream the loudest when this eventually happens – it will be the children themselves and the parents no doubt, against the person driving their car, who has the perfect legal right to do so on a road they have paid for, NOT these aggravating pests who have been warned time and again, who give nothing but abuse back.
Shame on these parents who let their children go out without any care or thought for anybody but themselves. I hope they take note and digest the above because these kids are an accident waiting to happen.
