AN INSECT that targets and destroys palm trees has turned up in Cyprus, infesting plants in four major districts, the Agriculture Ministry said yesterday.

If no measures are taken to deal with the problem the island’s palm trees will die at an annual rate of five per cent, experts have warned.

Missing man

A SEARCH is under way for a 57-year-old man who went missing from a care home in Nicosia on Saturday.

Neophytos Papaneophytou is described as being 170cm in height, of medium-build and with short, white hair.

At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing blue jeans and a shirt and was holding a bag and a radio.
