Platini opens new CFA headquarters

U.E.F.A. President and football legend Michel Platini was among a host of luminaries attending the inauguration of the Cyprus Football Association’s new offices in Nicosia yesterday.
Present at the event were President Tassos Papadopoulos, House Speaker Demetris Christofias, UEFA vice-president Marios Lefkaritis, CFA head Costakis Koutsoukoumnis, and FIFA General Secretary Urs Linsi, ministers, deputies and other dignitaries.

In his speech, Papadopoulos said he was “confident, that within the walls of this impressive facility, the ideal of sports will be revived, fair play and team spirit will be fostered, all attributes that should characterise the game of football.”

Thanking Platini for his visit to the island, the President referred to him as a “legend, a global symbol of football.”

The new premises were co-financed by UEFA.
Amid much fanfare, Platini, Papadopoulos and Koutsokoumnis stood side by side as they cut the ribbon, officially launching the facility.
The inaugural ceremony was followed by a gala at Nicosia’s Hilton Park hotel, where awards were presented to the football clubs who co-founded the football association.
