Drug dispute blamed for bomb attack

A MAN of 26 has been arrested on suspicion of trying to bomb the house of a drug client who failed to pay him.

Police believe the 26-year-old got the address wrong and placed the bomb on the doorstep of the target’s neighbour.

Police were called to the Limassol home of a 77-year-old man on Saturday after a bomb went off outside his front door. The blast caused damage to the exterior of his home but nobody was injured.

While police were investigating the bombing, a 30-year-old who lived next door came forward and told investigators that he believed the bomb was intended for him.

He went on to tell police officers that he had recently bought three kilos of cannabis off a 26-year-old man with intent to sell “to a Pontian in Paphos”.

He told police the cannabis was worth £19,800.

He was immediately placed under arrest and officers went on to search his home, where they reportedly found some drugs.

Police later moved in and arrested the 26-year-old, who was identified by his likely target.

Addressing the Limassol District Court on Sunday during the remand hearing of the 26-year-old, CID Investigator Vyronas Vyronos said: “According to the statement of the 30-year-old, he had received repeated death threats from the 26-year-old because he had not paid him for the drugs he had sold to the Pontian. A threat can also be heard after it was recorded on the phone belonging to the 30-year-old.”

Despite pleading his innocence, the court remanded the 26-year-old in police custody for six days.

The 30-year-old man is also in police custody on drug-related charges while officers are currently on the lookout for the three kilos of cannabis as well as the Pontian they suspect the drugs were sold to.
