A spiteful personal attack

Sir,
As concerned members of the school community, we would like to respond to the article (Tales from the coffeeshop) published in the Sunday Mail on May 13, with reference to the Director of the American International School in Cyprus, Mr Ron Joron and specifically the way he handled a hoax call received at the school. We would like to note the following:

It was evident that the article, which brimmed with false information, inaccuracies and a lame attempt to convey humour, was an unnecessary personal attack, written with spite, vengefulness and bitter sarcasm and with no regard to the welfare of individuals linked to the school community. It is obvious that the source of the article had a personal score to settle with Mr Joron. The source’s intention was clearly not to draw attention to the security of AISC but to humiliate an executive who had already given notice of resignation weeks before the incident. Apart from causing Mr Joron undeserved personal injury and hurt at the end of his time at AISC, this article compromises the innocence of our children and has awoken restlessness and an unnecessary sense of insecurity amongst them.
The “resourceful” way that the letter was written and the “hapless” timing of its publication has completely disregarded all the positive contributions Mr Joron has made to the schoot in the last four years, as noted by Mr Abushakra himself. We wonder what the source had hoped to achieve by publicising their personal grudges? What did they expect to gain other than harming Mr Joron and the school’s reputation? What does this article say about the person(s) who have masterminded it?
As members of the school community we are firmly committed to continuing the legacy of co-operation and good will that Mr Joron admittedly leaves behind. We shall not allow anybody to jeopardise the efforts and hard work of the entire AISC community.
Members of the AISC school community
