Residents furious as fire licks Polis town

RESIDENTS OF Polis Chrysochous had a close shave yesterday when brush fires in the area came menacingly close to the village boundaries.

Firefighters from across the Paphos district had the flames under control by 5pm, but not before seven hectares of wild vegetation and trees were burned down.

A total of 12 fire engines were deployed to the site, supported by a police chopper. Civilian volunteers assisted in the effort.

Angry residents complained that authorities were dragging their feet when it came to building a fire station for their community.
