Five arrests after basketball violence

FIVE MEN were arrested on Friday night in Limassol in connection with the violent incidents that took place during a basketball match on Thursday.

The scenes at the match between AEL Limassol and APOEL Nicosia were that bad, the police have threatened to boycott future high-risk sports events.

Three officers were injured during the clash, among them the Larnaca Police Chief, while fires were set around the Kition Stadium and on the length of the Nicosia-Larnaca highway.

The five suspects were led before Larnaca District Court, which ordered their three-day remand.
