Paedophile jailed for six years

A 62-YEAR-old paedophile was yesterday jailed for six years for sexually molesting three young boys at his Larnaca apartment.

The offences took place at the 62-year-old’s Mackenzie flat between July 1, 2005 and July 22, 2006.

The pensioner pleaded guilty to six charges of sexual harassment of three minors aged nine, 13 and 14. The nine-year-old and 13-year-old were brothers.

The court heard how the defendant performed oral sex on the boys in exchange for cash.

Sentencing, criminal court judge Antonis Liatsos said the defendant was a person who lacked moral boundaries and inhibitions.

“With a little money, he misled young boys to his apartment, taking advantage of their inability to have a well rounded view, due to their immaturity.

“The offences stir feelings of intense loathing and their innate severity is a given,” Liatsos said.

The paedophile was arrested at the beginning of the year following a tip-off to police that an elderly man was entertaining underage boys at his apartment and making them perform lewd acts.

The 62-year-old home was placed under surveillance and on January 22 a nine-year-old boy was spotted going in. When police officers knocked on the door, the minor opened it wearing only his underpants. The older man then admitted he’d been performing oral sex on the child.

The 62-year-old was arrested and confessed to the crimes.

During sentencing, the court took into consideration the defendant’s clean record, his co-operativeness, his remorse and his confession, which spared the boys from suffering a lengthy trial and having to give evidence.

The 62-year-old has been unable to work for the past seven years. He lived alone and was under psychiatric supervision for depression.
