Two die in weekend accidents

TWO people died in car separate accidents over the weekend.

On Sunday morning, a man of 63 is believed to have died of a heart attack while he was driving on Yiannis Kranidiotis Avenue in Limassol.

According to police, Evripidis Nicolaides’ car crashed through the side railings and came to a halt in the opposite lane.

Investigators said Nicolaides did not have any external injuries, with the most likely reason for his death being a sudden heart attack.

On Saturday, a British woman was killed in a horrific car crash on the Frenaros-Vrysoulles road in the Famagusta district.

Janet Knox, 66, a British national living in Cyprus, was killed, while another two Britons, aged 40 and 47, sustained minor injuries and were released after receiving first aid at Larnaca General Hospital.

According to traffic police, the accident occurred on Saturday lunchtime after a 30-year-old woman from the village of Xylotympou lost control of her car and careered into the oncoming lane, slamming into the car carrying the three Britons.

The 30-year-old woman was also treated for minor injuries.

The victim, who was sitting in the back seat, was rushed to hospital where died later that afternoon.
