CyBC staff strike for three hours

WORKERS at the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation yesterday downed tools for three hours in protest over the sacking of sports writer Demetris Kritikos.

The strike, which took place between 7.30am and 10.30am, was staged by members of the SIDIDEK-PEO trade union.

In an announcement, the trade union said that despite the clear position of the Labour Ministry, CyBC continues not to respect and breaks the industrial relations code.

“CyBC have acted illegally by sacking Kritikos and they refuse to respect the relevant legislation that has defined industrial relationships for decades,” the announcement states.

It is not clear how many people took part in the strike or why exactly Kritikos was fired.

CyBC was yesterday unavailable for comment.
