'The Milkman' faces years for smuggling racket

A MAJOR league drugs baron, dubbed ‘The Milkman’ because he always delivered, is behind bars after being found guilty of smuggling more than 1,000 kilos of cocaine into the UK and Ireland.

Brian Brendon Wright, 60, ran The Wright Organisation – one of Europe’s biggest drug-running cartels – which imported hundreds of millions of pounds worth of drugs using luxury yachts from Venezuela via the Caribbean.

The Irish millionaire, who rubbed shoulders with high-profile jockeys and is considered a celebrity in the racing world, went on trial at Woolwich Crown Court over the importation of the drugs in January last year.

Wright spent several years evading British authorities hiding out in the north. In 1999, he set up home in a luxury villa, living there for at least four years.

He fled the island in 2002, days before Turkish Cypriot police were going to arrest him at the request of the British authorities. Before leaving the island, he was spotted in Paphos, where police launched an investigation.
