‘I don’t know how they got there’

A MAN arrested after police discovered a large cache of explosives in his ex-wife’s home, is claiming to have no knowledge of how they got there.

The 48-year-old, a Syrian who is living in Limassol, was arrested on Saturday and remanded in custody for five days.

Most of the explosive material, discovered in bags hidden in the basement, was TNT.

Detonators, fuses, a timer and high-explosive sticks were also found.

Police described the material as, “powerful enough to blow up a whole block.”

According to a Limassol police spokesman yesterday, the man is laying the blame on his Cypriot ex-wife, saying he does not live at the property anymore.

Police are still investigating what the explosives were meant for.
