Eurocypria private deal to be discussed at House

THE CRISIS that has broken out between Cyprus Airways airport staff and subsidiary airline Eurocypria will be discussed tomorrow at Parliament.

In a joint meeting between the House Finance and Communications’ Committees, deputies will examine the objections and reactions of airport staff to Eurocypria’s decision to offer its customer services to a private company. Finance Minister Michalis Sarris and Communications Minister Harris Thrassou will also be present.

The decision for the out-of-schedule meeting was made following a letter sent by employees’ trade union SYNYKA to House President Demetris Christofias, urging him to take action.

Paphos customer services’ employees – who are the most affected by Eurocypria’s decision as half the flights they service belong to the airline – will hold a demonstration outside the House of Representatives on Monday morning, before the Committees convene.

Paphos deputies Andreas Fakontis of AKEL, DISY’s Costas Constantinou, Antonis Antoniou of DIKO and EDEK’s Fidias Sarikas are putting pressure on the government to postpone the agreement between

Eurocypria and the private company for a month until the matter has been examined.
