Cabaret manager and waiter accused of pimping

A CABARET manager and a waiter have been remanded in custody for eight days on suspicion of pimping and sexually exploiting a Moldovan woman.

The 21-year-old woman had gone to the police on Monday and told them that the owner of the cabaret where she worked in Nicosia was forcing her to have sex with customers.
“The victim informed us that when she arrived on the island on February 4 this year, the owner of the cabaret told her that she would have to have sex with customers from the cabaret,” CID Constable Demetris Christou told a Nicosia Court yesterday.

“When she refused, the owner, in her presence, called up the agency that brought her to Cyprus and informed them that she did not want to have sex with customers.”

During yesterday’s court hearing, the investigator said that the cabaret owner, who is currently wanted for questioning, would force the women to drink at least six beverages with every customer of the cabaret.

“The owner would give the women six casino chips for every customer they had to sit with. He would then expect them to bring him back 45 chips every two weeks in exchange for £1,” added Christou.

The court also heard how the cabaret would work with an ‘out’ system in which customers would pay £100 to the cabaret owner or his workers, for a woman they could keep for the entire morning.

It was not stated how much the women would get in return.

“The victim also informed us that the customers would take the women to various hotels so that they could have sex. She named some of these customers and they are to be brought in to make a statement.”

Judge Lemonia Kaoutzani remanded the two men in custody for eight days.
