Police arrest suspected heroin dealer

DRUG Squad officers have arrested a suspected drug dealer after putting his house in Archangelos under surveillance.

The 32-year-old suspect, who was yesterday remanded in police custody by a Nicosia judge, was arrested on midday on Tuesday just after he left his house.

“His car was stopped by members of the Drug Squad and under the mat of the passenger seat we found a nylon bag containing a beige substance,” said Constable Marios Miltiadous.
“We later weighed the substance and found it to be three grams of heroin. He was then arrested for possession of heroin,” added the investigator.

Officers later searched his house – where he lived with his girlfriend – and found more heroin, some weighing scales and the cash sum of £3,000, 455euros and $260.

Miltiadous also told the court that his department had reason to believe that the suspect had recently purchased around 50 grams of heroin “which we believe the suspect intended on selling onwards”.
The suspect, who yesterday appeared dazed and withdrawn, later told officers that the drugs found on him and at his house were for his own use and denies selling drugs to other people.

Judge Alexia Lycourgou accepted the state prosecution’s request for a remand of three days in light of the police’s preliminary investigations.
