FIBA Europe Coaching Certificate curriculum to be decided in Cyprus

FIBA Europe have announced that its Coaching Certificate (FECC) would officially be launched this summer with the purpose of focusing on the development of coaches and improving the standard of young players coaching across Europe.
Svetislav Pesic, one of the most successful Serbian coaches, will head the FIBA Europe Coaching Certificate (FECC) group of lecturers with their first meeting scheduled for the 19th of March in Cyprus with the FECC curriculum on the agenda.
Along with the main group of lecturers there will also be other coaches specializing in specific fields attending the conference to offer their input.

“We feel that the best way to develop the coaching curriculum is to involve highly qualified coaches with a strong understanding of European basketball coaching. This will enable us to bring different strengths from various parts of Europe together and integrate these ideas into the curriculum,” said FIBA Europe Coaching Coordinator Michael Schwarz on the official web site of FIBA Europe.

“It is clear that in order to generate a greater number of young players at a high level, we need more and better educated coaches,” he added.

It is originally planned for the FECC to be a three-year program, which wll include classes and clinics and will eventually allow coaches to earn a coaching certificate.
“This program is one more example that demonstrates FIBA Europe’s commitment to the future of our game,” said FIBA Europe President George Vassilakopoulos.
“We have invested significant resources into developing our youth program, which has already reaped tremendous benefits. This coaching certification program is one more step in the process,” added FIBA Europe Secretary General Nar Zanolin.
The initial FECC clinic will take place in Crete, Greece in July, while the second one is scheduled for the summer of 2008 at the venue for the U18 European Men’s Championship Division A.
