Private-public collaboration brings down waiting list

THE waiting list of cardiology patients waiting for catheterisation is shrinking rapidly, following a successful collaboration between the public and private health sectors.

The Chairman of the House Health Committee, Eleni Theocharous of DISY, said yesterday that since the Committee last discussed the matter two weeks ago, the 150 patients waiting for catheterisation had decreased to 75.

“Within the next two weeks, the list should have run out completely,” she added.
During yesterday’s Committee meeting, the Association for Children with Heart Conditions raised the possibility of creating a hospital solely for young people.

“The Committee agrees that a hospital for Cypriot teenagers is a necessity,” Theocharous said after the meeting. “Furthermore, we have spotted the need for better state regulation when sending children abroad for treatment.”
