Man arrested on child porn charges

THE POLICE arrested another pensioner on child pornography charges on Tuesday.
The 66-year-old from Larnaca was arrested after information was passed on to the Cypriot authorities from Interpol.

Police yesterday raided his house and located a computer that contained images of child pornography. The computer was confiscated from the 66-year-old’s house to be examined and possibly used as evidence.

The pensioner admitted that he was guilty after police questioning and was released yesterday morning.

Police have rejected claims that the arrest was related to the uncovering of a massive child pornography ring by Austrian authorities. Cypriot authorities at the time said that they were awaiting further information from Interpol.

The Russian site, described by the Austrian authorities who discovered it as “the worst kind of sexual abuse of children”, has been visited by people from 77 countries, including Cypriots and Greeks.

Two weeks ago, a 62-year-old Larnaca man under investigation for paedophilia told investigating officers he had been abusing most of his eight victims for the past two years.
