TAKE SEVEN Digital cameras

Olympus SLR E-500 KIT
With 8.0 million pixels you can’t go wrong with the quality of images from this camera and its huge LCD screen in relation to other digital cameras makes it easy to view images before actually having to put them onto the PC. It’s very high price may put many people off, but this is definitely a camera for someone with a great interest in photography looking to take pictures of the highest quality.

OLYMPUS [mju:] 720
Weighing in at less than 150g, this is definitely one of the lighter digital cameras on the market and is extremely easy to use due to its simple menu, which is not as cluttered as other cameras. The most original feature of this camera is the fact that it is waterproof to 3 metres and apparently resistant to falls from 1.5 metres. I did not test this out, as I didn’t consider it would be logical to throw an expensive digital camera on the floor, but these two features practically mean that you can take this camera anywhere and even take pictures in the water.

Canon Digital IXUS 800 IS
A good camera providing high quality pictures without it being a top end camera. Surprisingly good video quality even though the audio on the video is not perfect. This Canon model has an easy menu for those not very gadget-friendly.
Despite its battery life being good, a cause for concern has to be the fact that it has no battery charge level indicator, and the low battery indicator appears when very little battery is left.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T5
This is a very trendy camera from SONY, who have gone out of their way to make it as attractive as possible but have maybe spent too much time on the looks at the expense of quality. Ultra light – it weighs just 114g – and ultra thin, this camera has a digital zoom of x6. However, the quality of the pictures is not very impressive and you can find much better cameras for the same price.

Canon PowerShot A430
This camera has 4 mega pixels, less than the other six cameras but its shots still capture plenty of detail and being the cheapest camera of the seven, its value is definitely its best quality. If you are looking for a simple, no hassle camera and do not want to spend a lot of money, then this is the ideal camera for you. The use of standard AA batteries can also be an advantage for some. Also available in other colours.

SONY DSC-N1
The Cyber-shot N1 offers 8.1 effective Mega pixels with high sensitivity for reduced blur, with a massive 3.0 Clear Photo LCD Plus screen. It also comes with built-in Pocket Album and Slideshow with Music features. With a slim and attractive design, it has many positive features; the only negative point is probably the darkness of the screen, making it difficult to take pictures at night or when there is not enough light.

Kodak EasyShare V550 Digital Camera
A good quality digital camera from Kodak, with excellent photo quality in any light, even indoors, and a super quick shutter speed, great for getting that instant picture that makes all the difference. Buttons on the camera are on the small side, but the user can have no complaints as some sacrifices have to be made for the camera to allow it to be so small and compact. Also has 32MB of internal memory, useful if you like taking a lot of pictures and use up all the space on your memory card.
